Project Management Office Process Improvement

The City of Boulder’s Innovation & Technology (IT) department envisioned a fully redesigned Project Management Office (PMO) to increase simplicity, improve functionality, and encourage staff adoption. The city contracted with Leadline to improve the PMO. Leadline performed:

  • Created a project sprint plan

  • Reviewed the existing PMO function with staff interviews and artifact review

  • Collaborated with decision-makers to define the role, scope, and function of the PMO

  • Defined new processes from intake through completion including project types, phase gating, and templates

Based on the improvements recommended by Leadline, IT desired continued facilitation support to manage the IT Leadership Team’s strategic priorities by:

  • Facilitating a leadership retreat to identify and discuss strategic priorities

  • Facilitating bi-weekly leadership meetings to discuss progress and issues on the priorities

  • Working with the PMO to create a leadership dashboard that reflects priority project status and upcoming milestones

  • Working with the director to manage the ITSC process and develop the 2025 work plan
